The toms

Toms are the basis of a drumset. They differ from the huge bassdrum, the snaredrum, the tom-toms and the floor tom.

The bassdrum and the snaredrum are the main instruments to play the rhythm. The different sounds of the tom-toms allow to fill in more variations during the drumming.
The hardware

This means all the stands and holders on which you can mount toms and cymbals as for example cymbalstands or tomholders. In addition to that there are action hardware components as the footpedal for playing the bassdrum or the hihat machine to operate the hihat cymbals. These are played with th feet. At least there has to be the drumthrone to complete the basic equipment of a drumset.
The cymbals

There are three kind of cymbals:

With the hihat you can play cycling rhythm figures. It consists of two cymbals, which are mounted on top of each other. They are played by foot with the hihat machine or by hand with the drumsticks.
Alle
The ride cymbal is also an important rhythm instrument. Its musical function is similar to that of the hihat.
Alle
With the crash cymbal you can play musical accents and special highlights during the drumming. Depending on your playing ability or on the song you'r playing, more than one crash cymbal can be used as well as different cymbal sizes.
